Meet
OUR LIBRARY STAFF
Kathryn Colvin
What is your name?
Kathryn Colvin but I go by Katy or Kate.
Where did you study?
I have a BA in English Literature from University of Houston and a Masters of Library and Information Science from San Jose State University.
Any Hobbies or Pets?
I have a Jack Russell Terrier named Elsie and my hobbies are hiking and collecting Bundt pans in which I love to bake cakes.
Would you like to add a little background about your career?
I taught High School English for 7 years before returning to school to earn my MLIS. While working on my degree I served as the school librarian for a small PreK-8th grade school in West Marin County. Prior to coming to 4S Ranch I served as an Adult Librarian at the Escondido Public Library but I am very happy to be here now.
Where are you from?
I am originally from Marin County in Northern California but I have also lived in Albany, NY; Oslo, Norway; Magnolia, TX; Hsinchu, Taiwan; and Galveston, TX.
What is your job in the library?
I am a Librarian 1, primarily responsible for adult programming.
What is the most inspiring part of your job?
I love matching readers with books that they love and helping people solve problems.
What was the last really great book you read or one of your favorite books?
I recently finished the 4th book in the Thursday Murder Club series by Richard Osman and it is definitely at the top of my list right now. My favorite books however usually lean toward the classics; my top 5 are: āEast of Edenā, āThe Count of Monte Cristoā, āThe Great Gatsbyā, āThe Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clayā, and āA Prayer for Owen Meanyā.
What is your favorite thing to do when you are not working?
When I'm not at the Library you can usually find me hiking, baking Bundt cakes or relaxing in a Tiki bar.
What is your favorite type of cuisine?
I love trying new foods from around the world but some of my favorites of which I never tire are sushi and Brazilian steakhouses. And I never say no to a good dessert.
